Hmm. I seem to be the only person thinking of commenting here- do other folks just e-mail you?
In my family, my siblings and I all married individuals who converted to Judaism. We are (all) raising our children as Jews, because that is terribly important to us. I agree with one of your sentences- that the problem with an inter-married Rabbi is that if the Rabbi doesn't feel strongly enough about the religion to wish that the family live within one faith, then perhaps that person does not feel strongly enough about Judaism to be a rabbi. Also, I don't want to be in the position of determining the even worse concept of the children and whether they will be accepted as Jews... that is a good long step beyond my liberalism. Interesting article, but my lines were obviously reached before yours, although, like me, one can always say that our children, at least, would be Jews. Much harder if the Gentile spouse is the female.

Why do you use the term "snub?" A rabbi declining to perform an intermarriage may be a "snub" if the rabbi is rude, dismissive, lectures the couple, etc. But if handled politely and responsibly, why is it a snub? I know America is the land of entitlement but don't Reform rabbis have autonomy too?
